Fu Tea, a type of dark tea, is one of the six major tea categories in China. Among dark teas, it is especially distinctive. As a fully fermented tea, it undergoes a unique post-fermentation process. One of the most renowned varieties is Jingyang Fu Brick Tea, a specialty product from Jingyang County, Shanxi Province. Recognized as a National Geographical Indication Product of China, it is famously described in the old saying: “No tea grows north of the mountain ranges, except for Jingyang’s brick tea.” Historically traded along the Silk Road, Fu Brick Tea has earned the nicknames “The Mysterious Tea of the Ancient Silk Road” and “The Black Gold of the Silk Road.”
Recently, we partnered with a client to develop a custom tea tin project for Fu Tea. Through this collaboration, we discovered the uniqueness of Fu Brick Tea: out of over a thousand tea types in China, only Fu Brick Tea from Jingyang naturally develops a beneficial mold called Jinhua, or Eurotium cristatum. This rare fungus is a Class II nationally protected strain in China and contributes to the tea’s unique health benefits.
Given the remarkable value of this tea, premium packaging is essential to reflect its quality. This small round tea tin was developed in partnership with a pharmaceutical company based in Beijing. The collaboration resulted in two tin designs, with an initial production volume of 50,000 units. Made from 0.23mm food-grade tinplate, the tins are printed using eco-friendly ink and UV four-color printing technology, giving them a high-end, refined appearance.
The lid features a double inner-seal structure, offering excellent airtightness to preserve the tea’s flavor and quality. Tin packaging not only enhances the perceived value of the tea but also serves as an attractive, reusable, and brand-promoting solution.
